About this Work
There is nothing ambiguous about how a follower of Christ’s teachings should move through this world when you look at the life of Jesus. Humility, gentleness, and elevating mercy, yet giving a stark rebuke towards the hubris and hypocrisy of the religious people of the day. Jesus came to raise the standard of “righteousness” – completeness of our being. No longer were the external actions the barometer for wholeness. Giving, praying, fasting were outward expressions that the religious elite used to make themselves look holy, but inside they were full of darkness. Jesus said, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you won’t enter the kingdom. So do your “works” in secret. And further, this higher morality includes thoughts, desires, motives and how we treat others—especially the vulnerable. I love the Gospels – to me it was all about the entrance of light, because that is exactly what happened when he came on the scene.
