20 Questions

Goodness it’s already Wednesday and I haven’t posted this week. It’s been really busy, lots going on. But, I thought it would be fun to do a little 20 Questions post. Here goes!

1. Show us the inside of something cute. I love this little trinket that’s in my sons room of a jungle scene. Cute decoration only? Nope! Open it up and it reveals pieces for a game of Tiddlywinks.

2. What’s the last home cooking you had? Mmm, peanut butter cookies of my making. Well, actually not a cookie, the dough only.  I made them for knitting group tonight!

3. What do you miss? My nose piercing! I left it out for a few days while having my baby and the hole disappeared. :(

4. What makes you laugh often? My husband and my baby.

5. What’s your favorite word? insurmountable

6. What are you trying to quit? Sugar. That, however, has proven futile.

7. What’s your favorite commercial right now? I don’t watch enough TV to have a favorite.

8. Whose style do you dig? This girls from Finland. It’s colorful, vintage, classic…so chic!

9. Link to a great blog you’ve discovered lately. Where the Lovely Things Are

10. What’s the last craft you made? It’s not finished, but I’m working on a handmade purse for my niece’s birthday. I’ll post about it when it’s done!

11. A photo of the last happy mail you got. Oops! I guess I have nothing for you here. Hmm, next time I will take photos of my mail. :)

12. Something you’ve got lately? Fabric! Lots of it. From an estate sale that was clearing out “grandma’s attic.” Love those finds!

13. What are you looking forward to? A trip to Kenya next Spring with my husband working with Compassion International.

14. Post a recent snapshot of yourself. Here’s one from my flickr.

15. Recent Favorite Movie? Bedtime Stories (so cute!)

16. Something you’re working on right now? A deal with a wedding boutique in Chicago to stock some of my ring pillows.

17. If a movie were made about you, who would play you? Hmm, I dunno. Maybe Rachel McAdams? I love her!

18. What gives you goosebumps? A dramatic crescendo in a symphony or a beautiful vocal/choral arrangement.

19. Share a new obsession. Netflix!

20. What’s the meaning of your life? I love creating beauty and inspiring others, but ultimately, it’s to use my life and talents to love, serve and give to people and make a difference in the world. Sounds cliche, but it’s true!

That was fun! So, did you learn anything new and exciting? If you want to do this, leave a comment here with a link to your list so we can learn more about you. Happy Wednesday!

DIY Vintage Ribbon Belt & Headband

I picked up this vintage ribbon with a beautiful mustard yellow and green pattern. With some leftovers from this project, I used the jersey knit and sewed a length on either end of my cut ribbon. It’s great because I made it originally just for my hair, but it also fits around my waist, so I can wear it either way!

I’m off to go volunteer at a local school this morning. I started last week mentoring a 2nd grader to help her improve her reading skills. She’s so sweet, and I can’t wait to see her again!

Have  a great weekend everyone!

Why I Love Autumn

Summer is my favorite season. Fall is a close second. Our days get shorter, the scarves come out, and oh, the beautiful dark rich colors! It makes me want to run to the store for some cocoa, but it’s still 80 degrees in my office. Oh well, I know the cool temps will come soon enough. Here are some inspiring photos, one of them is a new product available in my etsy store, for a limited time.

It’s Fall and I’m Knitting

OK, well the temperature has finally dropped and I got the first official cold chills of the season this morning. Luckily, I have a new knit hat to keep my little cranium warm. I used the Le Slouch pattern from knit and tonic and I love  it! I had never  knit in the round before, and I learned the great technique of using a Magic Loop. I also learned the seed stitch which is knit one, purl one and then always knitting in a purl stitch, and purling in a knit stitch. It really turned out beautifully despite some of my mistakes.

Here I am modeling my new creation!

And here is my baby modeling it. He looks like a very moody artist huh? He’s been a very grumpy, snotty mess since he’s cutting some new teeth in. Poor guy.

On another note, I’m working on a new project I’m very excited about. You’ll be hearing about it in the next month or so, but in case my posting slows, that’s probably why!

Cutest Handmade Birds

Anyone getting married soon? I found the cutest little handmade birdie cake toppers. They are PRECIOUS! Ashley Anna Brown is the creator of these little wonders, and each one is unique.

Favorites from Lush Bella

I stumbled on this flickr favorites set from Lush Bella and was hypnotized by all the pretty eye candy. Lately in my estate sale shopping I’ve been picking up little miniature objects and random items just because I think they are neat but certainly not for any practical use. These photos are rich in small objects that are unique and have a story in and of themselves.

I like how she’s created real life collages of these trinkets and made them into cohesive piece of art through photography.

Just lovely!

Art Travelling Around the World

I love this creative project by Culture Vulture to send a few themed Moleskines around the world to be drawn in by different artists. You can already see the drawings in this Flickr group, but here are my favs.

Amazing Photos of Space

I just had to post these images from the new Hubble telescope. Amazing huh? On the right photo, a dying star five times the mass of the sun on the verge of exploding creates a cosmic “butterfly” in which the “wings,” together span about two light-years. Wow!

Inspired by Utterly Engaged

After only 3 issues, Utterly Engaged has really captured the attention of the wedding industry. For good reason. The content, photography and articles are so well done and full of inspiration – even if you aren’t planning a wedding. Just look at these images!

Love this idea of a spool note.

I especially can appreciate the Big Talent with Heart section at the end of every issue. This one features Jeffrey Neal, a photography with an incredible gift, who brings hope to others. He has great advice – “Do what you love. Do it now and pour your whole life into it…”
