I’m Knitting Flowers

January 30, 2009

There is something about the cold lately that made me get out my knitting needles and start stitching up a small mountain of cozy, yarn-y creations! I knit several of these flowers that I’ll probably end up making a pin out of, or sewing them on something. You could also make up a bunch of these and create a pretty garland!

They are super easy to make. Here is the pattern:

I used a US size #8 needle.
Cast on 8 stitches.
Row 1: slip 1 purlwise, knit 7
Row 2: slip 1 knitwise, knit 5 (2 sts remain on left needle), turn and put yarn to the back.
Row 3: slip 1 knitwise, knit 3 (2 sts remain on left needle), turn and put yarn to the back.
Row 4: slip 1 knitwise, knit 3, turn.
Row 5: slip 1 knitwise, knit 5 (0 sts remain on left needle), turn.
Row 6: slip 1 knitwise, knit 6 (leaving 1 st on left needle), turn.
Row 7: slip 1 knitwise and begin casting off until 1 st remains, turn.
Cast on 7 stitches. Repeat 5 times to create 6 petals.
Cast off last sts leaving a long tail. Thread yarn on a wool sewing needle and weave sewing needle in and out of each petal along inside edge of hold and gently pull yarn together, closing hole.
